T3: TomTom ONE is revealed as Test Winner

The TomTom ONE UK receives a glowing review in this double page feature looking at 'wallet sized' sat nav's. In a round up of 5 devices the TomTom ONE is included and is revealed as Test Winner. It is the only device to receive 5 stars and performance is summed up as "Brilliant". The review goes on to compliment the device further, "It has that simple interface that makes TomTom greatgreat, a 3.5-inch touchscreen, user-friendly maps, speed camera alerts and Bluetooth for use with the Plus services (but not hands free calling). It's the best budget sat nav around."

Oh, and something else about the ONE not mentioned previously - the volume - much better than the competition.

In fact you can hear it quite clearly above the clatter of a tractor engine.

I have heard that Tom Tom's speed camera data base is not the best.

I use a Tom Tom but download the latest speed camera locations from the pocket gps world database. This is updated every month and an annual subscription is only about £15, from memory. Loading them onto Tom Tom is very easy. I actually have mine categorised by speed limit and a voice which not only warns of the camers but also reminds me of the speed limit. No need to get the 510 to have all this.

Does anyone have a photo of where a Tom Tom would be mounted. I would assume up on the dash board under the windshield but am concerned about it being distracting and am also worried about the potential for a launched Tom Tom hitting me in the head during heavy MCS acceleration.

Jordan.....just get the TT ONE and be done with it!
I had the Navman 510 and it cost me far too much money 2 years ago and was the biggest load of tosh ever. I am now planning on driving over it and putting me out of the misery the thing caused me! I now have the TT and can honestly say its brill and does all I want and possibly more. It come with a months free weather/road/whatever updates and safety camera update too.
Don't ask anymore questions....just go and buy it for heavens sake!

Look at it this way, if you ask for advice, be prepared to take it, unless you think you know the answer anyway , in which case asking for advice is pretty pointless.
In this case, you said you wanted something fairly simple. The One is simple and most people have offered that as a good buy, even all the techie mags say its the best of the bunch. The 510 might come with extra features, but you admit to being a little techologically challenged at times, so if extra features mean extra compexity that in turn means more possibility of something going wrong.
Off back to sleep now.
Night everyone

Thanks stu.

I dint know the answer. As i was thinking of the Road angel one at first. The ONE does look good. But I dont like the idea of having to sort out seting speed cameras spots up on it. Where with the 510 I would not have to. Also the bigger screen seams slightly better as i cant read tiney things very well

As i said i wont mind what one i get. But i now know that it should be a TT and the ONE or 510 are the best ones to get.

I have a TomTom One Euro version, and it has everything you want, and will slip into your pocket too. The GB ones are available at Sainsburys for £180 nowadays.

Harpo, can you tell me where and how you've mounted your tomtom1 please? Have a tomtom 710 in our other car but fancy getting the new tomtom 1 with bluetooth to use in the MINI not only as sat nav but as hands free too. Cheers, MD
