calling mikeythemini or any one whos good with ice
as you may or may not know im having problems with the dreaded whine from my new install but i contacted mikey the mini and he suggested a few solutions
move earth done no diffrence
run cable from earth point to headunit done no diffrence
put better quality kenwood amps in done small diffrence but still there
line boot with tin foil done no diffrence
That whine is just your power steering aid Only joking!
I no exactly how annoying the whine can be, and in my experience it has always been a bad earth. When you say you have moved the earth, where have you moved it from and too?
i had a similar problem, had mikey fit an rca filter for me, they cost 20 quid to buy, mikey did this for me for free. heres a pic. they also boost the signal going into your amp so you get a better sound. this is an autoleads one.
Sounds almost too simple, but have you tried Earthing & Suppressing the Root cause of the Whine
.. The Alternator
This used to be the Very First stage in noise filtration when I was a lad
I had this problem in my first car and also my mates have had the same problem and as burns863 said its always been a bad earth for me! and ive tried one of those Autoleads RCA Filters and it made no difference what so ever, wasnt worth the £20 so i took it back!
We spoke on the phone & as I said 'alterantor whine' is normally always something on the earthing side.
Have you tried moving the amps tempory?
One thing to note - How bad is the whine? On my last S I noticed a very faint whine from the rear - only audible with no music playing & when accelerating with the heater off & windows shut. I assumed it was an amp problem, but then when messing with my system noticed it was there with no power connected & even with the amp disconnected!
My new S it is there - Standard speakers & no stereo no amp - there is a VERY faint whine coming from the rear of the car & I havn't worked out where from yet
Tried earthing moving the earth an earthing the headunit to the same place, only other things is better RCA`s tinfoil round them an around my amp i think? Any other ideas?
It may be stating the obvious, but are you running your RCA cables down the opposite side of the car to your power cable? Nobody seems to have mentioned this yet....
Errrm its an S the battery is in the boot, an tbh ive done a fair few installs an know that, thats a no go from experience. but cheers anyway this has got me stumped
