Replacing Rear Speakers

Hello, this is my first time on this forum. We have just bought a '05 JCW which is an outstanding car. Love every aspect of it, apart from the ICE. Not intending on changing the head unit yet, but I am keen to replace the speakers front and rear. I understand the rear's to be the standards oval 6x9's. My question is, can I just remove the grill to replace the speaker drive units, or do I have to remove the entire rear panel? If it is a case of just removing the grills, could someone let me know how, as I have had a look, and fear that I am just gonna wreck it! Many thanks.

Welcome to the forum Gary! On this site you'll be hard pushed to find a question that hasn't already been asked and answered somewhere!

The search feature is quite specific and a doddle to use. Have a look here mate, these are the results I got when searched for "rear speakers" in the titles of posts in the Interior & Ice forums:

Hope that helps Gary! Welcome to Mini2!

Hi Gary, welcome to the forum.

I have some infinity 6x9s which I will be mounting in the back of my MCS. I'm off to the Stealers tomorrow to buy some clips, as I will probably snap all mine, and also buying these adapters from newministuff...

NewMINIStuff.com

Might get some sound deadening stuff as well, dunno how effective it is but may as well give it a shot.

Anyway, I think it's just a case of pulling the large plastic panel off, as i've not seen any screws as yet.

Allow plenty of time, the hole left when I removed my 6x9's wasn't big enough for my
new Genesis P69's. I wasn't expecting it so didn't have any suitable power tools so
had to use an early iron age file and some cursing .

Thanks for the heads up Steve, I wouldn't have expected that.

I'm hoping that my Infinity 6x9s are a good improvement over the stock speakers. Just out of interest, has anybody amplified their speakers using the stock wiring?? I admit, I haven't searched the forum yet, just thought I'd ask.

Do you mean OEM or after market speakers? When I upgraded my head unit the OEM speakers
sounded better. Then I put my Genesis and Focal speakers in one weekend and I had to wait
a few more weeks before I had time to add a Genesis amp and it made a big difference. I have
used the OEM wiring for convenience.
