Alpine Install problems

I'm hoping someone here can help me with a problem im having installing an Alpine CDE-9870RM. I have a Wave head unit and have brought the wave to alpine adpator and alpine MFSW adaptor etc from New Mini Stuff.

All the various plugs and connectors seem to fit together very snuggly and i am fairly sure you cant plug the wrong plug into the wrong socket but when its all together the new head unit(alpine) has no power to it at all - ie no lights,no sound, nothing. I have tried all variations of ignition position and this seems to have no effect. The only wires that aren't connected are :-

Out the back of the Alpine head unit:-
one Yellow male connector
one blue + white stripe female connector
one red male connector
one pink+black stripe female connector

also out the back of the alpine is a black plug with four pins in it which has two cables that im not sure what to do with, they are:-
one yellow female connector
and 2 red female connectors in series

Should any of the above connectors be linked to each other (ie should i connect the two yellows and reds together) or should they be linked to part of the car wiring.

I have tried replacing the cabin fuses for the radio and have also re connected the old stero and confirmed that it still works. Anyone offer me any assistance please??

Having yellow & red connectors not connected sounds like a problem - there should be a red from the alpine going to the red in my adaptor, there should a yellow from the alpine to the yellow on my adaptor - Can you post a pic of the back of your alpine ?? The manual with your stereo should show what they all are for
Note: There are a few high power alpines that require the yellow battery cable to be connected straight to the car battery - but again your manual should explain if this is required

Thanks mike, i'm sure the red into red and the yellow into yellow will solve my problem, don't know why i didn't think to try it before i put the old head unit back in again!. I shall have another bash tomorrow when i'm thinking a bit straighter!

Thanks again

The alpine stereo normally has the yellow and red cables with plugs on the end so they can be swapped for different cars as they tend to be different in some.

These will need to be connected to work. Normally though, the other end of the alpine lead will have the other end of the red and yellow cables for you to plug them into.

I now have the head unit fully working and installed with the exeption of the MFSW. I have connected the headphone jack plug into the back of the unit into what the instruction manual describes as the steering wheel remote socket but none of the buttons on the back of the wheel have any effect. I have also looked in the manual to see if i need to activate the remote on the head unit but there is no mention. Anyone got any ideas??
