Sat Nav Confusion!

Hey all!

Newbie here and I apologise for asking a question that is already been asked several times, but I've been reading all your posts and googling a little! And now I'm really confused!

I have a Cooper S 2003 with sat nav (DVD Based) I have the original maps however called my local dealer today and said there is a trade in price for the new ones! So looks like I shall be popping along to get that.

Right not for the questions! I doubt the firmware has ever been updated! what is the latest version, how do I obtain this and how do i perform the upgrade!

Second when i do get the updated maps I'm a little confused about how to add speed cameras to POI's I've read and re-read the guides here but I'm still really lost can anyone help?

One again I apoligise for asking such newbie questions!

Regards
Robert!

Robert,

You are not the only one that can get confused by the BMW NAV. What you have is the MK4 system and you can get the latest firmware at my site...

Casa Potere

It is located down on the right side. (29-1).

To install it you will have to burn the ISO image to a CD and then simply pop it in to the unit with the key in the second position. It will eject when it is complete.

As for the DVD, if your dealer is willing to cut you a break on the cost, go for it. Typically the DVD for Europe High runs 200 USD.

I hope this helps.

Also forgot to mention that if you go to the setup menu on the NAV, there are some numbers in the upper right hand corner. If you post those numbers I can tell you exactly what version you are on.

Thanks for the reply! I've successfully updated the software!

Thank you.

Have you got any tips on how to add the speed camera database? The part I understand is ripping the dvd purchasing the UK database for £2 but after that I'm confused :S

There is actually a thread on this.

Sebby is the master on this and there are some files that you will have to edit to make it work but it is possible.

Adding the speed camera database is not too hard, you just have to follow the instructions and get yourself a copy of UltraISO.

Basically :

Modify the Speed camera database to be the correct format .ASC files.
Convert the .ASC files to URL and IDX files
Modify the ENG.LSC file
Replace or add the files to the DVD ISO image

You can find the full instructions here Add Speed Cameras to Europe 2007.1 - X5world

That means that you have the DVD-based system (which is good), and, I believe, have V26 firmware. There are a couple of newer versions (we're on V29.1 now) but there's no real reason to update unless you need/want to.
