United-Kingdom Help Needed, Just retro fitted oem sat nav into my mrs mini but screen dont turn on.

Hi,

i installed the oem navi into my mrs 2005 mini cooper, but the screen dont turn on, i installed it the exact way it was taken out from a damaged car, i can see the power running to it cos the airbag light and the petrol indicator is on.

any suggestions or advice would be appreciated..... or anyone willing to be paid to get it working for me, shes doing my head in...

Have you installed the CD or DVD drive that has the maps on it? Have you installed any ancillary sensors. Not sure what the MINI Nav uses but a lot of cars have gyroscopic devices that can tell where the car is heading when out of the satellites view but some base this on steering angle and speed using the sensors that are already there.

Also I would assume that a dealer would have to activate the nav if the car didn't have it originally. A lot of features on the MINI require activation so it's not so easy to do what you have done. One example is the OBC.

I'm sure others more familiar with the sat nav will chime in.

It was acceptable in the 80's

i probably have to take it to the dealers, the car is still under warranty, but not sure if the dealer would touch it if they foundout its retro fitted.

just have to give it a try.

thanks.

They'll probably charge you a small fee to activate it.

Think it needs to be re-coded? Heard many horror stories re the sat nav retrofit you must be a dab hand with electronics.
Let us know how it gets on.

Oh and I since found out the unit is under one of the front seats!!

you may need wiring looms to install all this stuff

yes the sat nav drive is underneath the drivers seat in the uk spec, you need two looms one is with the obd port that goes to the back on the sat nav screen. and the other one is the one that goes to the sat nav drive to the car loom (earth, and to the fuse box that is located on the passenger side footwell).

ive booked it in with the dealers, i have to get them to code the new dials to the car too.
never expected it to be this difficult, thought it might be like the e39 bmws and that.

oh well have to wait and see what they tell me on the 4th september.

Did you have the Chrono pack with the speedo over the steering wheel or had you to fit the speedo too?

yes, i took everything, that the two looms were going into, i think i might have missed one or two components that maybe why the screen doesnt turn on. i looked at the wiring diagram and i dont remember installing the high video module and a ANTENNA AMPLIFIER... i have to look into this further.
