Unhappy Damaged stock antenna connector/plug

When installing a new head unit today, I damaged the stock antenna plug. It is a micro coax with a funky connector. Two small sections of the round outer metal piece broke off, because I tried to plug the adaptor into it without noticing the groves it was supposed to fit into. When everything is all hooked up - including this damaged antenna connection - I get zero FM reception.

I'm sure I've wrecked the plug, because I unhooked everything and powered the stock radio back up and it no longer gets FM reception either.

Does anyone know if it's possible to cut that stock cable and splice it to the antenna adaptor I purchased? I would really prefer this option, to having to pay the Mini dealership to run a whole new antenna cable for me.

Thanks for any suggestions.

P.S. I do have the correct Antennaworks adaptor from Crutchfield. I just was careless when plugging it into the Mini cable.

Thank you! It took me an hour to cut and solder the cables, because the wires inside were so thin. But everything works and I have good FM and AM reception now.

Hey flannery,

You're not alone, I did the exact same thing! Well, me and my brother. About three years ago... still haven't had the balls to fix it

Easy fix. Either get a solder or screw type. I used a screw type with no problems.

Glad you got it sorted

Can anyone advise on what the exact connector is? It's not a part on realoem. Only loom harnesses are there AFAICT.

Now... can anyone sanity check this please:

According to this reference sheet the connector is a FAKRA single radio without phantom powersupply type, ie. the top row, third column.

If so, using this scary hardcore catalogue the best match I came up with so far is 59K28A-1M4A4-Y. Would anyone mind having a quick look at this link, see if it looks right? Thanks.

I've taken photos of how my setup currently looks. I don't have a working radio to reference, but if I'm right, the plug on the back of my Boost is fine, it's the jack on the end of the antenna coming off the loom which has its core broken and plastic broken away

Anyone who has been here before mind clicking to look? This is the best I figured out so far :?:

beej,

looks good to me, however I do know that BMW use TYCO connectors mostly and they do FAKRA connectors as well.

Inside a FAKRA connector is a standard SMB connector, the FAKRA bit holds it all together in automotive consitions (vibration, etc.).

Hope this helps!
