Thanks for the reply Sebby. Mine says SW3-1/50 making it a cd, so I guess I'm out of luck But thanks anyway. Seems I'm not the only one with sat nav problems

Annoying...

When I picked up the car, I found that I can't enter a post code. I was assured that only the "new" SatNav in the R56 MINI would be able to accept post codes, and that it is simply not possible in a Convertible.

Then I spoke to the service representative, he gave me the impression that I was asking for something simply impossible - DVD in a Convertible?

The dealerships computer says "DVD not possible"...

Was also told I would have a "Welcome pack" with TLC vouchers in the post the next day. That was 10 days ago.

So I guess I escalate the matter a bit higher. I'm a German living in the UK, and the quality of service used to be bad in Germany many years ago. Market forces have changed the situation, customers are now (in most cases) treated as "valuable customers". I had my bad experiences with UK dealerships in the past, I'm astonished that it happens at BMW/MINI - does one have to prove a high level of incompetence to become a dealer?

Sorry for getting a bit grumpy...

Harold

The dealer tells me that, according to his computer, I cannot use a DVD in my car (1 Week old S Convertible) - but I could make an appointment with the service department, maybe they could program the cars computer to accept a DVD (which they would be happy to provide).

You have a MK4 with 29.1 installed. This is a DVD system and requires no additional programming. What you need is them to get 'DVD 2007-2 Road Map Europe' High and problem solved.

I would speak to MINI UK and ask the question whether it ships with DVD? If yes get them to phone the dealer direct to sort them out.

BTW the postcode searching is only to sector level e.g. TW12 5 and not full postcode e.g. TW12 5RT.

Details on adding the speed cameras can be found on the sat nav forum on X5world. The Pimp-My-Nav Home software is not available yet but will also do this.

Finally got the DVD...

...but not without a MINI adventure!

Wrote to the dealership, explained the situation, very friendly response - "we will swap the CD for the DVD for free". Nice!

Went to the dealer, exchanged the CD for the DVD. Put DVD in player - "Wrong DVD", my SatNav says. And yes, it was a "Professional" DVD, thanks to this forum I knew it needs to be the "High" DVD.

"But your 07 Convertible S does not work with any DVD, we told you so!"
"No, the 'High' DVD is only for R53 MINIs built before 2003, it will definitely not work in your car"

After some "Yes it will", "No, it won't", I was given the DVD "at your own risk, Sir", and now IT WORKS!

Thanks to all that helped in that matter!

Great result.

It amazes me how a dealer can be so clueless when they've been selling that car for 6 or so years! Okay, so the DVD system hasn't been around that long, but it's been around for a good few years! Anyway, glad it's sorted.

HI,

I have the same DVD based sat nav on my sidewalk, i picked up yesterday.

It won't show any maps!!???

I took it back to the dealers, they checked the softwear and the disc was all ok!

Apparently I just need to keep driving, until the satallittes get picked up!?

Surely the maps are on the disc not in the sky!

Hi Rellik,

The SatNav should be able to see GPS sattelites when you are on the roads, but the DVD drive can be quite fuzzy. Can you enter an adress as a destination? As long as you can select a country, the DVD is read.
If you go then to "MAP" in the menu, and still can't see one, your dealer should try another DVD.

Good luck!

Harold

Thanks Harold,

I took it to the dealer yesterday and he tried another CD, it is a CD not DVD, but is a DVD reader! That didn't work either. He also tried a different disc, a different version and that didn't wven read. I can enter destinations and it will show where my house is, just nowhere else!

It is going to get booked in and looked at! So we shall see.

Unfortunately the other sidewalk S they have in wasnt there yesterday as I know the Sat Nav on that works, and I could have compared discs!

Oh well I shall wait and see!

Cheers

Roo
