IceLink Plus & iPod Classic (6th Gen)

Hi Guys,

I had the Dension IceLink Plus fitted by NewMINIStuff for use with my 5th generation iPod video.

I now want to upgrade to the 6th generation iPod Classic, so does anyone know if the IceLink Plus is compatibile with the new iPods?

Thanks,
Richard.

Isn't the "classic" just the 5th gen ipod video with a new name to differentiate it from the the newer touch screen pod? Either way I'm guessing the Ice Link should work with it.

I think it's been upgraded so I would guess it has some new software. It does look similar, don't think it's the same though. I could be wrong...

Can't confirm that it will work with your Denison but the classic is NOT just the same as the 5th generation.

The user interface is different - with coverflow and the navigation uses the left hand side of the screen not the whole lot.

The unit is also a subtly different shape which means it doesn't dock properly with the JBL OnStage speaker system - JBL are sending us a new dock adapter to fix that.

My partner's 160GB Classic works with the Alpine KCA-420i interface on her CDA-9855R headunit (in her Mini) but I haven't tried it with my Alpine 9850. My 5th gen works with both.

I would expect the Classic to work with your Denison unless it's got a fixed dock connection in a cradle in which case it might be too thin - I would confirm it before you spint £220 for a new iPod though.

I don't have the dock, the cable goes into the glovebox and I rest the iPod in the sunglasses (??) holder.

But I do have the iPod hifi at home so I'd hope they supply an adapter for that!!

Yes the classic comes with the dock adapter - not that you'll probably need it for the HiFi - mine came with 10 or so different adapters, so I,m sure one of them will fit.

Mike, on the subject of new iPods and the ice>Link Plus, do you know if the new Nano will work with it?

I have a Dension Gateway 500 in my Cayenne - and that works fine with the ipod classic 160Gb EXCEPT it doesn't charge it. Bit of a bummer.

I think Apple have changed the way the new range charges. I found that my new classic wouldn't charge on my PC with my (Apple) firewire cable, but it did when I changed over to the USB type.

Are there any updates regarding Gateway and the new ipod classic range compatability?
I understand that Dension were in the process of some 'tests' ?

When I raised a support ticket with dension two weeks ago they said to ask again in a weeks time (ie last week) as they were in the process of testing. Although they've probably been saying that for the last month! As the last bit of my dension parts have only just arrived, I have not had chance to fit it yet, but we will see tonight if it works 'out of the box', if not I,ll contact them again. In the mean time I still have my old colour ipod.

Testing is still going on - Different firmware versions of the new ipods are reacting totally differently than each other so it is taking time to go through all the permutations

OK thanks - what is the latest release version - still V2.01 ?
I've got a problem with my GW300 - the ipod continually mounts & dismounts and I
can't get any music out of it - HU displays 'no ipod gw'. Its a colour 20gig ipod, so
should work ok ? I did get the USB memory stick to play some tunes however.
