No CD Prep - Big Job?

Noob here be gentle!
My wife has a 2002 Cooper and the previous owner has installed a cheap Sony head unit so I'd like to replace it with the original Wave and CD Changer. I've checked the right hand side compartment in the boot and there doesn't seem to be any pre-installed CD prep cables there. Is it a big job to fit a factory changer without the wires already there? If so I have 2 options, fit a Boost head unit or a better aftermarket one. So, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced aftermarket HU with amber illumination that is simple to use and is MP3 compatible, or, anyone got a Boost for sale?
Last question! Are all the pin connections the same for all Minis or are they different like BMWs?
Cheers
D

your choice for a new headunit is vast; if your not really into your audio, it really is personal taste on the looks of it. Getting a loom for the factory CD changer and fitting it really wouldnt be worth it, especially when you could get an aftermarket set for (probably) cheaper and less hassle.

I have a boost CD for sale (£30 its yours) but it wont play MP3, just normal CDs.

Mark £30 sounds good to me. Would Paypal suit? Don't know much about Mini pin connections will this Boost fit a 2002 Cooper?
PM me your details and I'll arrange payment.
Cheers

You will need some sort of wiring adaptor which ever way you do it, if your MINI hasn't got the CD prep.

see here (RealOEM, AUDIO, ACCESSORIES + RETROFITTINGS)

This will give you some idea of the genuine cables available from the main dealer, when changing from a cassette player to CD player (head unit) the wiring is different, round pins on the cassette and flat pins on the CD (like BMWs ?).

Also check this post out by "mikeythemini".

I know it's an old post but "mikeythemini" is still around and he should be able to help you out anyway .

newministuff (mikeythemini) will be able to help with the loom you require. they are only cheap. It might be best to PM him details of what you have got so he can advise what loom to buy.
