Don't buy a transmitter they are worthless. Either get a Aux input or get an ipod solution like DICE or Dension. Even the OEM would be better.

My Ipod sits in the glovebox.

I had a couple of transmitters for a while but found them a bit fiddly, and the transfer quality was poor. I got the Dension Icelink, which is a few more pennies than the transmitters, but attaches into the stereo allowing you to control the music by the stereo.
I have mine plumbed into the wiring loom at the rear of the stereo. The cable then goes into the glovebox. This is done by removal of a small plastic cover on the RHS inside the glovebox, which simply pops off.
I have an ipod classic, which is perfect size to fit in the sunglasses void on the rear of the glovebox door without bouncing around.
I like it in the glovebox as nobody can see it if you forget to take it out, and also you don't have to keep taking it out if you are constantly in and out of the car.
Hope that helps.

hey Barny, is this hard? after you pop the hub in the back of the glovebox is the connector there or do you have to re-wire anything? i see on the Dension website that there are a couple different cables, do i only need to plug one in? did you do it yourself?

thanks for the great answers everyone. this place will be my home when i get a mini (when my girlfriend lets me buy an S over the standard....im whipped)

My Nano just sits in the front cupholders, plugged in to an Alpine 9850Ri Headunit.

I keep my ipod in the storage space beneath the fog lamp/window switches. I bought a black cable and a black ipod holder - perfect camouflage in the dark storage area.

I'd echo what has been said about transmitters - I had one for a bit and it was useless, seems worse in the MINI than other cars, works fine in my sister's Lupo. I was going to go for the Denison Ice Link, but frustratingly my 2004 car has the older spec radio which can't display track names, so decided against it for the time being. Have a search for Denison Ice Link for plenty of useful threads.

a friend gave me an iPod transmitter because she got a car with it pre-wired. i'm apparently the only person who's never had problems with it, but the transmitter works fine, i haven't been able to justify in my head getting an iPod connection permanently linked into the car's stereo since the transmitter was free and works great.

i *would* recoomend that if you go the transmitter route, based on what people say, that you borrow one off someone for a day to make sure it works well with your stereo.

I use a TuneFlex. Plugs into the cig lighter to provide power and charges the iPod. The audio is taken from the port at the bottom of the iPod, so the sound is much better. A 3.5mm aux cable then plugs into the TuneFlex and the aux input of the Mini. Ipod slots in and out of the dock with ease. It even automatically pauses the iPod when the ignition is switched off.

For me, this was the best alternative to the OEM iPod interface. It took some getting hold of mind you. I was told they are no longer available to Oz, but whilst I was searching for one, there where plenty of UK sites that sold them. Amazon being one of them, but they won't ship electrical goods to Oz.

Dont buy a transmitter - when you travel around and cross near a radio station transmitting on the station you have chosen you have to retune it or it interferes!
