3 spoke steering wheel
How difficult is it to change from a 2 spoke to 3 spoke steering wheel? Is it a DIY job or MINI garage?

It's possible to do it, but you need to also swap the 2 spoke airbag, for the three spoke airbag, and if you're not too familiar with doing that, you're best to leave your garage do it for you, or a specialist. If you do a search through the Forum, you'll see you're not the only one who wants to do it, it's a very popular upgrade.

I have the wheel and airbag for the 3 spoke. Just wondered if it was a difficult job changing any wires etc. if you have to of course. I can fit it otherwise.

It's a simple plug & play operation.
Just make sure to disconnect the battery 1st so as not to activate the airbag light.

Is it?
I have one waiting for me at the moment...waiting cos I was unsure if it would be an easy job!
Whats the situation with the airbag...or is it just a straight swap.
Cheers

Its a straight swap but you dont need the torxe bit to fix it back together like the 2 spoke
just push the airbag into place and one happy horn working. Nothing else to do, took me about 10 min to change.

There is a writeup and photos here:

It shows a
JCW wheel but the fitting is exactly the same for a standard wheel.

very easy, i bought a brand new unused 3 spoke MFW wheel out of a 2007 cabrio, and a new airbag unit , bioth from ebay for the grand total of 150. I also sourced a carbon fibre
JCW 3rd spoke cover and it all swapped within 5 mins. Just sold my old 2 spoke and airbag for 100 quid on ebay, and the feel of the new wheel is so much better

Was your 2 Spoke a MFW or a Standard?

MFW, and if i'm honest i did prefer the controls on the back of the wheel, but you can't have it all as the 3-spoke is the best looking

Big Deal that I never said thanks for your comment, care. Its not a competition
And I don't want no petty argument going live over a thread. If you have a problem send me a PM and we can discuss things
