Cockpit Chrono Package - Digital Speed Readout

Don't know if anyone can help me out here.....a technical question.

I've just purchased a MC with the Cockpit Chrono Package (i.e. speedo moves to above the steering wheel, with a rev counter as well).

I'm a driving instructor and "thought" that the onboard computer would have had a function for a digital readout, but unfortunately it hasn't. Therefore, sitting on the left with pupils, it makes it difficult for me (and examiners) to see the pupils speed.

So my question is, can a technical tweak get the onboard computer to add current speed to its list of MPG, range, avg MPG etc....etc... I the wiring there, just needs to be connected???? Or am I having to get a ugly secondary speedo fitted on the passenger side?

Also, the clock is tiny! It shows on the speedo, but even when driving I find it hard to read! Anyone else have this problem? Probably not Again, for the job it makes it difficult for me to see how much time I've got left on lessons. Again, I could buy a clock and stick it on the dash, but AGAIN, this will look ugly!

Your comments would be much appreciated.....

Phil

MINIs without cockpit chrono pack or satnav are able to show the current speed in the OBC display in the rev counter. Vehicles fitted with chrono or nav don't have this feature as the speedo is directly in front of the driver so it's considered as unecessary.

Yes, the clock is tricky to read. It was relocated to the speedo when the MINI was facelifted in 2004 - previously there was a big clock in the headlining. This move was done to accomodate the convertible

Sorry I can't be of more help...

Jon

Thank Mini Cabrio! So it's YOUR fault the clock is so small!!

So I suppose the cheapest option would be to get a Sat Nav which shows current speed and a clock!!! Something cheap and cheerful.....I'll need to do some homework now on these, there are SO many out there! Small, compact and easy to fit me thinks

Thanks Jon

When you say Chrono Pack, do you mean the trip computer? I have an R53 with the trip computer in the rev counter, and the speedo in the middle of the cockpit - are you saying it's possible to add the speed to the trip computer?

Cheers - sorry to jump on the topic!

Try this for display of speed - very small and discrete, also has over speed alarm

I, too, would like to know the trick to get the OBC display in the rev counter on 1st gen MINIs, to add MPH (current speed) to its possible displays.

If your MINI was built prior to September 2003, the speed readout can't be displayed.

Oh, OK. Thanks for the clarification.

As Maxwell Smart would say, "I missed it by justttttt one month".
