Dash Panels Colour Change Help...

I have a complete 2nd dash and im looking at either colour coding or re-trimming it...

This is the colour of everything at the moment and would like your thoughts on what would look good?

Im thinking

Colour coded Black - Black Alacantra - Dark Grey Alacantra - Black Leather?

The parts that will be getting done is the dash and downtubes.

Thats sounds really nice, and thats what i may prefer. Can you put some completed pics upof this Mikey please?

I dont want solid black unless its painted, if i go for alcantra then id like dark grey to match the colour of the seats as they arent black.

ive just bought a dash and am considering the same as you, i was thinking maybe do it in gloss white but think it might look strange. If not i'll do it in gloss black or a brighter colour like orange.

p.s ive tried the carbon wrapping before, its easy on flat surfaces but when you have curves etc it starts to get a LOT harder to avoid wrinkles

Mikey, is there any chance of a pic when done please i think im going to go for alacantara instead.

Also, when youcover the airbag part pf the dash.... what does the little airbag logo come out like?

Does it just leave a flat patch sort off or does it actually still show the full logo?

Cheers for you help.

Just out of interest guys are you sticking with with the 5-piece dash (2001-2004) or are you changing it to a 3-piece dash (2004-Present, you can't cover the dash top because of passenger AIRBAG), as I have changed them over on a couple of MINIs now and In My Opinion (IMO) they look a little better, they seem a little better built (cuts out some rattles) than the earlier 5 piece ones .

However to do it properly you need to change more than just the dash eg. Passenger AIRBAG, dash strengthener bar (behind the dash), re-route dash wiring a little, complete dash inc dash top & carcass & all the panels, and not just change the 5-piece panels for the 3-piece panels as I have seen some people do, which is very dangerous IMO , you can't cover the 3-piece dash-top either as the passenger AIRBAG deploys out of it .

The dash colour change looks good done right, I'm sure you'll be posting pics, like the seats "ScottyBoy" .

This is just a colour or material change nothing else mate.

You can cover the 5 peiece dash easiley enough with anything that tickles you fancy

I've thought about this for my MCS, and reckon if i was doing it, i'd go for a gloss black (something like Piano Black) on the dash and downtubes. Trouble is then, i'd want to do the rings and handles on the doors, speaker surrounds, tweeter and door-pull surrounds.

Having taken the stereo out, i also know how tricky getting the downtubes back in is. Scratches a-plenty!

Glad i have everything then.....

If i do go gloss black it will be, Speedo ring - Air vents - Rev counter - down tubes - 5 Piece dash - Steering wheel bits - Gear stick gaitor.

I aint got anything for the doors tho and thats to much of a job to remove them but i think im doing them dark grey alacantara now.

I know I suggested this to you but how about flocking the dash? it would look very nice!

Flock Colour Kit*(U415DarkGreen) - Frost Auto Restoration Techniques

Pick a nice black flock, not too hard to do, just time consuming - much cheaper than paint too. I flocked the pillar pods I made for my celica they looked sweet, wish I had done the whole dash though...
