Smile Help with radio frequency

Hi ppl,

I just purchased a 2005 Mini Cooper S Cabriolet from Japan and the FM radio frequency is only from 76.00 to 90.00. The range of the radio frequency in my place runs from 88.00 to 110.00.

I heard from a friend that you can actually purchase a so called booster to "boost up" the frequency. Can anybody please offer some more infor on the same?

I'm trying to avoid changing the audio system as it is factory fitted.

Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks.

EL

Hi and welcome

Never heard of a "Booster" ? Usually these devices down convert the normal FM frequency range and compress it to fit into the Japanese tuners bandwidth. Because they compress the normal FM range to "fit" they can make the radio perform poorly.

Could you not get an original mini headunit off ebay ? There are usually a couple on there for around the £40 or £50 mark ?

Actually you might be able to adjust the radio to get those freqs. If you turn the car on with radio on press and hold the "M" button for a few seconds, you will get a hidden service menu. you can then use the "+" and "-" to scroll and select the region that you are in. Try setting it to a different area. (Ta accept the changes, just turn the radio off and on.

FYI, you will not be able to get into the service menu if you touch any other buttons after you turn the radio on. The "M" has to be the first button pressed.

Radio frequency

I tried the suggestion below. Didn't work.

Just to clarify, must the radio be already on when you start the engine or switch the radio on immediately after starting the car coz I did the former.

Looks like I have to shop at eBay then.

Just switch the car on and press and hold the button. It has worked on every model MINI and several BMW versions as well.
