How to swap the Aussie Speedo/Tacho?

I'm calling upon all you Autoelectric gurus!

As you know all Australian MINIs are unfortunately fitted with the tacho where the speedo should be and the speedo fitted to the steering column - the only MINIs in the world to come like this! Not only does the giant tacho look stupid (more like a clock!), the cramped speedo is more difficult to read. Besides, in my opinion, it's just not a 'pure' MINI. So my question is;

Does anyone know if it'd be at all possible to order and fit a UK Speedo (km/h) / Tacho kit from anywhere?

What would be involved? Who could fit it ?(My dealer just fobbed me off saying not only would it be illegal, but it's a completely different wiring loom?) Approximate price? etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
It's the only thing that annoys me about my MINI...

well i agree with u that it kind of looks a bit weird compare to normal setup, but i guess i wouldnt change it, or i might consider it if its cheap to do so.

i don't believe the wiring thing, the Mini uses CAN BUS, which, from my brief investigation i believe is a digital signal network for cars (CAR AREA NETWORK = CAN).

I would imagine it is illegal (to fit them) but you could just buy parts from another territory (such as the UK) it is very unlikely an aussie dealer is going to sell illegal parts.
