Retrofit Airconditioning on 2005 Cooper S

Hi All,

I have just purchased a 2005 Cooper S and would like to Retro Fit Air Conditioning... Does anyone have an idea of how to go about this or has anyone gone through this already??

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Does it have no air con at all or do you mean you want to upgrade to climate?

Retrofitting air-con will be a big job. You'll need piping, rad, pumps, controls...etc.

A couple of people have done this on here, I have collected all the s/h parts and a wiring harness to retro-fit but have not had the time recently to remove my whole dash to fit yet. Quite a big job but dash comes out as a complete assembly and is detailed quite well in the Bentley Mini manual. You need to like a bit of a challenge..............

Heres more in Link below plus a BMW MINI pdf instructions download for the Air Con retrofit kit.

Post no.2 here has some pics of the dash assy removed and air con/heater assembly:-

All the parts you need are listed in the post links/pdf above. The basic heater unit has to be replaced with the very similar air-con unit which has the evaporator rad as well as the standard heater martix fitted.

The automatic climate air con is a different unit and more complicated but is the only system BMW seem to do the retrofit add on wiring harness for as far as I know, I too would prefer to fit the less complicated manual air con. but you would need to work out the basic wiring, etc, from a scrap donor Mini perhaps? Both systems require your BC1 programming/coding by a main dealer or fitting the BC1 from a donor Mini with A/C.

Auto and Manual A/C on UK MINI's was only fitted as an optional extra until this year, when manual A/C became standard and Auto/Climate an upgrade option.
