54 Plate Sat Nav Control Unit Problem

Hello thar,

I had a bit of an accident in February when we had all that snow, and slid nearside parallel into a kerb, at about 10mph knackering my alloys, front suspension.... ya know...structural bits of the car.

The sat nav was working after this and I drove it for a while until taking it in for repair. Whilst at the repair company for approximately 3 weeks (they have informed me that they disconnected the battery as it was hanging around their yard for a while, whilst parts arrived., if this makes any difference...)

When I picked my car up, the Sat Nav wasn't working. What I mean by this is that the Menu screen would load up, but when selecting GPS navigation, it says "Loading Disc" or whatever it says...
It does this for about 10 minutes, and then says that it can't find the disc in the drive. Funny, coz the disc to my knowledge has been taken out only once in the 3 years I've owned the car, and that was 2 and half years ago.

I went to BMW and have had a look at the car, and said that the Sat Nav Control Unit needs repairing at a cost of....£1917.28.

QUE?!

Now, I have used this secret function on this website called the "Search" function and found some ye olde freds about cold weather causing the Sat Nav to pack up. Yesterday it was 20 degrees here and it still isn't working so I have ruled that line of enquiry out.

Has anyone had or know of anyone that has had Sat Nav Control Unit problems (Any information about it whatsoever is also appreciated!), as Elephant insurance are refusing to pay out as its not accident related (I agree as it was working after the accident) and have said that the repair company wouldnt have done anything during the repairs that would have affected the sat nav unit, and that the unit has just expired after 4 and half years driving. The repair company are declining to pay for the new unit.

Yeeeeeaaaaaaaahhhhh(!)

So if anyone has any knowledge, recommendations or would be willing to donate an arm, leg or other body part to help me get the sat nav sorted, it would be most appreciated!

Ich nicht sprechen sie Deutsche!

But thanks for the help! I've got some other information like looking on eBay for second hand Sat Nav drives and stuff.

I also need to get a spare disc to try it out and see if it works.

Fingers crossed, that would get it working...but hey ho! All I can see is my bank balance going down!

Are there any other uses for the screen (Due to the Sat Nav being pants - No postcodes?! You what?!), like if I got my OrangeBerry hooked up to the screen somehow, then it would be an additional screen? (Thats what Id like to do anyway!)
