Satnav/ipod mounting

The windscreen is a bit far away for me to be able to see a satnav on it properly. Ie. I have to lean forward, plus the sucker leaves those nasty ring marks on it.

The top of the dask is nice and flat though. Lots of room to put a satnav within easy reach and visual range.

The sucker-mount I currently have is actually exactly the right size to leave the satnav right where I want it (on top of the dash, just to the left of the steering wheel) but obviously it won't stick to squishy, textured plastic.

Any suggestions for a way to mount a satnav somewhere other than the windscreen would be appreciated, as would a way to mount an ipod/phone somewhere close to the stereo.

EDIT: My car has the chrono pack, and it's a Tomtom satnav. Traded in the Navman, piece of junk...
