Australia Factory GPS Display Question/Suggestion

Hi All,
I have recently purchased a 2002 CVT Cooper with inbuilt Sat Nav.

Whilst I think this is great to have it inbuilt and have the speedo and tacho on the steering top, I actually miss having the tacho in the centre console(we are the opposite in Australia). My main gripe is that when the GPS isn't being used, you basically only have the option of settings or turn the unit off, which leaves the whole big circular space ,just black, blank and unengaging.
What I am suprised they have'nt realeased as a firmware or CD update is a virtual/computerised representation of the Tacho or Speedo to be dispalyed on the screen. I know you alraedy have the tacho and speedo there on the wheel, but think how cool it would look, you could then just switch over to GPS mode when need be.

What does eveyone else who has the GPS think, especially in regards to the big, blank space when the unit is turned off, kind of losses it's MINIness at this time.

Thoughts???

Not sure, but im sure that something else could be used on the screen when not in sat nav/GPS mode , eg: my suggestion of compuetrised tacho/speedo.
Just feel that the space is uninspiring otherwise, does anybody know if something like this can be done?

The problem is that you have an MK3 in that car which is extremely old. Even the MK4 that is in the 04 - 06 models is out of date and we probably have seen the end of firmware up dates for them. The processing power on that system is slow and there is not much you can do with it. The newer model MINI has moved on to the Pro version of nav system.

If you don't like the blank screen, install a Car PC and use it as a DVD player, or Internet browser, or Rear View Cam, or just aboput any display.......

Just another question to ask in this thread and concerning the rev counter and speedo display. On my wife;s car(usual setup ,no GPS) she has range displayed on her rev counter eg: how much fuel left till empty. Im am wondering if this is still supposed to display on GPS fitted MINI'S on the rev counter, since we have this information on th GPS computer screen?
If somebody has it displayed on both could you tell me how to do this?

Just by pressing the computer button on the stalk should show this....if I am understanding you ok. I have my sat nav on all the time and miss it when in my other MINI without nav. Means I can see all the roads around me and gives me options when I am stuck in traffic!
