CD not reading

Hi, Everyone -

I'm the original owner of a 2004 MINI with the factory installed CD player/radio.

I hardly ever use my CD player - can't remember the last time I popped a CD in it. Last night, I put a CD in, and the display read "No Disc", then would change back to the radio mode.

I tried several times, with two separate CDs. (one is an old one that I know used to play in the CD player) Kept getting the "no disc" reading on the display. CD ejected just fine.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?
any recommendations?

Thanks!
-Trina

not too much info on it, but my mini is also a 2004 and has the factory radio, and also refuses CDs.

i think mine is shorted out, though, because the problem started when my sunroof was left open and it was raining. (not by me, of course)

i'm using it as an excuse to get a new head unit, personally, because i want USB connections and bluetooth, and when the factory bluetooth kit costs more than the head unit i want, which has two USB ports, an aux input and bluetooth all built in, it's just a convenient coincidence that i need a new head unit.

Hi All,

I seem to have a similar issue.
Bought a 54reg MCS Cab with CD Boost and HK about a month ago.

The CD player seems to play the first time for about 10 mins without a problem. Great sound no jumping, just perfect.

Then, I guess once the unit gets hot, the tracks start jumping. You can hear the laser searching for ages (no sound at this point) and then I will get the 'CD Error' message on the screen and it normally jumps to radio.

I have tried running a cleaning CD through it but of course it did not play it for very long.

Is this a common thing then? Is it fixable?

I prefer the look of the standard h/u in the car especially due to possible compatibility issues with the HK and an aftermarket h/u.

Thanks all.
