odometer problem?

hi guys, i recently got a 2003 r53 coopers s, and the odometer was functioning well, on start up it would show a zero, and the numbers increase or decrease accordingly when i speed up or slow down.

the problem - on start up yesterday i noticed there was a number on the display already, an 85, and it would not respond when i speed up, or slow down to a zero. is this a fault or some kind of setting which i have running unintentionally? it says "range" at the top, and "miles" at the bottom of the odometer. help me out plzz!!

thanks in advance for any replies.

Are you talking about the OBC display on the tacho

If yes ----

then what you are seeing is how much fuel is left in the tank = range 85 miles before you run out.

On the indicator stalk there is a little button that when you press it changes the OBC to read different functions such as
Speed
outside temp
Range
Ave Fuel consumption
Ave speed

It is all in the hand book

In Italy
