Multifunction S/wheel retro fit - include Cruise control?

Hi I'm gonna get the multi function kit fitted to my 3 spoke steering wheel in my 2006 UK MCSC (auto with paddles) - I don't currently have cruise control but wil having this kit fitted actually add cruise control? Or would I have to ask the dealer to fit CC as a separate thing?

Thanks

I would ask dealer as it may interfere with tlc pack if you have that also may effect other warranties. No harm in asking.

I bet that's an expensive add-on. The full MFSW retrofit kit is a lot of hours work.

no it's not - i checked - it's about £240 for the kit and an hour's labour - at BMW Mini dealer workshop - it's just the fitting of the KIT - not the whole wheel

though the dealer says it WON'T give me cruise control - and that I would have to have had cruise control fitted already.

if you have cruise control retrofitted with a manual they have to add something to the clutch iirc which was expensive, I assume an auto would be the same

Maybe its £700 if they fit cruise control too Don't know but this is something that I'd be interested in (although I'd be wanting it for the Cooper S steering wheel! - can't be that much difference in cost mind)

If they say it's only one hour, I'd get that quote in writing and pay them in advance! I've done this retrofit myself and it is a lot of work.

You couldn't have cruise control without MFSW, that's where the controls are!

Also I don't understand what they think they're doing if they're not doing an install of the Multi Function Steering Wheel Retrofit kit. Would that be a Limited Function Steering Wheel?

Maybe MFSW and/or Cruise Control weren't available on the Auto.

Both were available... I reckon they're just doing the stereo buttons, and leaving the car without cruise - sounds it for that price! However, that is a bargain! Get it done!

How long did it take you scraggles? Maybe the MINI mechanics are really fast at it seeing as they probably do it fairly often.....well, in any case.....they have the car and are doing a few other bits on it too - i trust them when they say 1 hour's labour for the MFSW kit to be fitted and if they present me a bill saying it was more than an hour's labour i won't be paying it!

(both the service person and the parts guy i spoke to beforehand said it was an hour's labour actually, so between the 2 of them i can't imagine it to be otherwise)

I think the thing is that when you buy from new and choose to have cruise control you are then given the steering wheel controls as a way of controlling it. As my car never had CC fitted, i'm not gonna have CC by retro-fitting the MFSW kit.

and MOS the kit is being fitted on a cooper S steering wheel - the leather 3 spoke one

It took me a day and half. Most dealers I've heard of have quoted 1 days labour, though the official guide suggests 3.5 hours. You'll have £150 of parts for the retro-fit kit, plus the cost of the buttons on the steering wheel.

I don't think they can code the computer for MFSW without cruise control. I asked that as a way of cutting costs and install time. I was told they wouldn't complete the coding unless they could prove CC works.

hmm, well i'm pretty sure they're just doing the stereo controls and not Cruise control - hence the shorter labour time - i did ask them if getting this fitted would give me CC and they said 'no' - so i guess it's more straightforward - there was no mention of 'coding' or anything

FWIW
the steroe controls on the MFSW are completely isolated from the Cruice controls.
If you fit the MFSW and don't code the BCU then only the stero controls work, this is what I did 1st.
If you then get the BCU coded Cruise works as well, this is what I then did.
If you just want stereo control then you don't need to get the BCU coded.
