shiny happy heater controls

Hi, ive bought some lovely shiny alloy heater controls from alloyparts.co.uk (yes i emailed them for help) but i cant work out how to remove the pillars from the dashboard, is there some kind of secret screw device around cup holders, gear stick that allow that horizontal large plastic piece to be removed? 2003 mini cooper. Many many thanks, simon

They're a bit awkward to remove.

First you need to unscrew the black screws on the outside of either pillar, they will have 2 each.

Then you have to kind of yank the downtubes in towards you but be careful of the front centre dash piece under the centre speedo when doing it, its best to remove this centre dash piece but can be done without removing it.

Once you've freed the tops from the dash just pull the tubes upwards to slide them out of the centre console.
