| In answer to the question about the lighter, as I wanted to make sure that everything I do to my car is reversible you can't get at the lighter as the MD changer is to far forward. If you were to cut into the panel behind the MD changer then it would go back enough so you could get at the lighter (only need an extra half inch), but as it was only decided to put it there once I had got to mikeys, I hadn't bought a replacement panel so if things went wrong it could be reversed. As my phone has a very long battery life and I don't smoke I'm not fussed about losing it. If the worst came to the worst I could use the one in the boot anyway. As for the cover, it takes 2 seconds to put cover in place and 2 seconds to remove it. The cover was originally a theft deterant but at night the light from the MD changer was distracting (its green as opposed to the interiors orange which I have on full dim) so thats why I made a proper cover(cost me about £15 to make and £10 was the badge). It doesn't fold out the way but as its not ver big about 4" by 5" and its only comes off to change disc its not a problem. As far as how much it cost you would have to ask mike. Mike did a good price for me but I'm not sure if it was a one off price as I helped him with testing the MFSW cables by Autoleads so I won't give the price he did for fitting here. (even though knowing me I probably already have done) He'll be wanting to look at this thread when he returns from holiday so he'll probably post on here, or you could PM him (username mikeythemini). The only problem I know is that the MD changer crackles in the left tweeter but I'm preety sure this is when its cold as once the car interiors warmed up its fine. Now with me it takes 1 minute to go away becuase it the unit warms up quickly as its near the heating. MINIALEX has had the same problem but his MD changer is in the boot and it takes a lot longer for the crackle to go away. I think this is because it takes longer for the boot to warm up. ![]() |

| I have the same CHANGER (sorry) as DAMO but using the original boost HU and there is a problem with it, namely a crackle in the left tweeter, apparently there is an incompatibility between the MD changer and the HU so you need to fit an adaptor on the back of the HU and trail a new cable to the boot, not a cheap job and there not even sure if this will solve it! | You've lost me. Your using the same head unit I have (i.e. the sony one pictured above) or are you using the standard head unit? Or are you on about the CHanger?? What do you mean by HU. If you mean head unit your sentence doesn't make sense. If its a case of you need an adapter why do you need a cable aswell? Is the cable differant somehow? ALl MD or Cd changer cables for any SOny radio are identical so I was told. ![]() |

| Mikey the mini would be the best person to answer that question as he fitted it. What I can say is he didn't use the standardaudio cable but a much shorter higher quality one. (Its just stanard left and right phono cable like found with most stereos). The bus cable or control cable that allows the head unit to control the changer, i believe that was put behind the airbag panel. mikey showed a hugh area that is left empty behind the airbag. The cable doesn't obstruct the airbag deploying as it is behind the airbag not in front. This area must be taken up with something such as sat nav but in my car its not used. ![]() |

| Sorry, I meant same changer, i've edited it above, what they told me was that they had spoken to the people who make the interfaces and they siad its a known fault and they know of one person who fitted the adaptor on the back of the Boost head unit and trailed a cable to the boot so there was no need for the Sony lead to BMW lead interface anymore and it worked, Damo as you have a different HU you will not need this and your crackle must of been due to the cold, i'm having it done on Monday and i'll let you know how it goes. Damo, can you please tell me how your changer is fixed into that space, i've looked at mine and i'm not sure which is the best way to do this? Thanks Alex Cometh the Hour, Cometh the MINI |
