Installing Kenwood head unit

i have a kenwood kdc 6041u head unit, i have tried installing the unit myself. as far as i can see i have installed it correctly with the correct wiring harness etc but for some reason the unit will not power up there is power to the unit as it will let me insert and eject cd's but the display will not light up or work. i had a technician from halfords look and he suggested it may need wiring in to the ignition can anyone help on how i would do this as i don't really want to go messing with my electrics and mess up my multi function steering wheel. i have a mini cooper 2002 reg btw

Hi Dave,
Ok, have you tried the small blade fuse that is usually fitted in the back
of the headunit ?
It may be worth trying another headunit that you KNOW works just to
be sure its NOT the headunit.
Are you positive the wiring harness is the correct one for your vehicle?
Sorry if these suggestions sound obvious, but its usually the best place to start.
The guy from halfords who said the headunit needed to be connected via the ignition is correct, however, the correct wiring harness should do this for you.
You need 12V permanently so you don't loose radio stations etc, and 12V at ignition position ll, plus earth of course!
Hope this helps mate
Ade.

Do you have a Harmon Kardon set up?

I had my head unit replaced too and it took a couple of hours to rewire - apparently the harmon amp is bypassed to make a head unit work...
