Water in the boot

Hi, I haven't been on here to post for a very long time but I do regularly browse. I am the very proud owner of a new Mini Cooper Pimlico with black bonnet stripes. It's beautiful, really love it. Now.....heres my problem. My old 05 cooper I sold to my Dad. Immaculate condition very low milage and I never had a bother with it. Someone did rear end me a couple of months ago and I was led to believe it was minimal damage (hardly even noticable, just a few hairline cracks) and only the bumper needed replacing and this was done at a BMW dealers.
Now today when he went into the boot to get tools out he spotted that the boot was full of water by about 3 inches deep. I'm sure I've never had that problem with it but having said that I never went under the boot carpet. I feel really awful about it for him. Could anyone shed any light on this at all please? The only thing I can think of is the boot does need a good shut otherwise it doesn't catch right although it will lock like this. We also had a real good downpour of rain the night before he found it. I hope I can solve this for him.

Thanks all

Regards

Anne

Most common rear leak point is the sealing gasket around the high level rear brake light unit.

Also check that the small drain hole in the base of the tailgate is clear, around the boot handle seal, rear wiper spindle seal and rear light unit rubber seals.
If all else fails fold down the rear seat backs, sit in the back with tailgate shut tight and watch carefully from inside for leaks while someone else aims water from a hose at the tailgate area!

Thanks very much for that. I will have a look tomorrow at all those seals and climb in the back if needed. Much appreciated.

I have kind of similar issues with my 04 MCS, sometimes when I open the boot water comes pouring out from the inside of the boot hatch. Somewhere it is leaking and getting inside rear hatch and I have not figured it out yet.

2004 MCS JCW, 15% pulley, Dinan CAI, MSD ignition & wires, Mynes V2 header, TSW rear control arms, H-sport front and rear sway bars, H-sport lowering springs, Powerflex bushings all around, modified Forge intercooler, M7 STB , ATI Damper

As said, climb in the boot and watch with a torch while someone sprays a hose over the rear in a downward sprinkle to simulate rain
