Mini Cooper S 2005 Sat Nav Failure :-(

Hi all,


I have a 2005 Cooper S which was bought with an inbuilt sat nav unit. The problem is that the when I select the sat nav option on the center console screen it comes up saying there is an error in reading the disc or that there is no disc inserted when there is. The attached pictures show the messages that are appearing

It is a DVD unit that is under the drivers seat and I have tried a cleaning disc but it does not spin when it is inserted and i have been told this is because there is no play button on the DVD unit.

Is there any way of fixing the DVD unit under the seat or will I have to buy a whole new unit? My local BMW garage quoted me £2500 for a new unit!!!

Does anyone know where I can get a new DVD unit for significantly less cost?

try a different disc first if its the underseat unit at fault buy a s/h one they are also fitted to several bmw models, should pick one up for £50 or so make sure its a mkV unit

not managed to get it fixed.

It isn't an issue with the disc as I have two 2 discs and both come up with the same error

Spoke to a friend of a friend who is a car mechanic and they have advised that I need a new DVD unit that is under the seat unless I can find someone who is willing to take the existing one apart and give it a full check over.

I have not managed to find a second hand unit yet and definitely not seen any for around £50!!

Just leaving it just now as I have sat nav on my phone, but it looks like it will be a main dealer repair unless i get lucky and find a second hand unit and someone willing to fit it.
