Difference between R52 interior mirror and others

Hi

I'm looking at doing an EC mirror retrofit to the convertible but I'm a little worried that on realoem all the R52 mirrors are listed as not compatible with R50 and R53, and vice versa. This is usually an indication of different mountings or different hardware in the mirror (315MHz receiver) on a convertible.


Does anyone know if the R52 can accept the mirror from other models?

If theyre listed as not compatible then they arent otherwise it would say they are.

Agreed but I'd like to know why, for example it may be something simple like the design of the arm or the number of pins in the plug, which can be overcome if the mirror fits the mount and trim.

If you tell me what an EC mirror is I should be able to tell you as I have both.

If you mean the auto dimming rearview mirror, they won't fit as the design is totally different, they are located in a different location. I can have a look for you to check though.

That would be great thanks, yes EC is short for Electro Chromatic which is an automatic dimming mirror.

I can't tell you definitively that they aren't, I would suggest the connectors are the same but the size and shape of the fitments is different. The cabrio mirror fits into a different location and holder to the standard r53 due to the roof.

the r52 has not different mountings but is different mirror

Does anyone have good pictures of both so I can se the difference? I've done eBay and Google images, many mirrors are shown but few take the time to show the arm in profile for comparisons.
