Will audio control on steering wheel work after a new head unit?

Hi all

I'm not sure if the question has been asked before. If it has please point me to the right thread.

I have a 2004 MC and would like to upgrade the factory head unit to a bluetooth head unit. Wondering if the volume & track skipping control on the steering wheel will still work with the new unit.

When I asked the car audio professional I'll be getting to install them, they always say they can't guarantee it'll work.

Just wondering if anyone here has done it and it works or not. Thanks heaps.

I have a friend who upgraded her head unit to a bluetooth one and the steering wheel controls did not work after that.

In my mini, I have a bluetooth extension device which allows me to connect my iPhone by bluetooth while keeping the steering wheel controls and retro head unit look. It may be a cheaper option as well.

Dension gateway lite BT. Had it installed for over 6 months and it works perfectly.

I would definitely consider this device..

Edit: it's also easy enough to install yourself, plug and play into the back of the head unit.

Thanks.
I'll check out the Dension.
