How to replace the cigarette lighter luminous ring

Hi guys

I recently discovered that the cigarette lighter luminous ring in my 2004 MC is broken. Everytime I try to pull the cigarette lighter out, the entire socket comes with it.

I checked and I think only the luminous ring (orange ring) is broken. But I don't know why the entire socket would come out with it too.

I stopped using the socket for anything except my sat nav which I require power.

Any chance anyone knows what I can do to fix it? I've tried supergluing it but when I used it, it came undone anyway.

Is it easy to replace?

Thanks. Much appreciated.

Hi,
I think as it's already loose you may be able to remove it
without taking the whole thing apart.
The orange bit has clips on it that hold it in place.
As it seems like they have broken off, you should be able to lift it out.
There is a power cable connected underneath it.
Disconnect the old one and push re-fit the new one.
If you cannot do this it means removing the downtubes and unscrewing the whole bottom assembly to remove it.
Not that difficult..........just time consuming!
Hope this helps.

Also this may help

Just check the bulb is working in the orange ring before you put it back together

Thanks guys. I think I'll give it a try.
The trouble now is finding the replacement parts locally as ordering online would cost $US20 for shipping to Australia.

Thanks again.

I'm having the same problem so I'd like to replace the ring. Problem is that I can pull the whole thing about 1/2 way out, but no farther. I don't want to really force it. I'm afraid I'll break something.
Is it supposed to come out with a little force, or am I missing something?

Wrap a bit of sticky tape around it under the top lip and push it back in to make it a tighter fit?

For the record: I played around a little bit and discovered that if you remove the metal lighter housing first, the plastic ring comes right out.

BTW, mine doesn't move around but comes out whenever I remove the lighter.

I still haven't fixed the ring. I have the same issue, when I pulled it out, it only came out half way. I can see the electric cable at the bottom. I'm trying got figure out how to disconnect it so that I can pull the whole thing out and replace the illuminious orange ring. I can't do it without taking the metal ring off because the orange plastic only comes out from the bottom.
