Hello, please, does anyone know if this beige interior in mini cooper S 2004 from Europe is leather or leatherette? I am vegan and I dont want leather seats. thanks
Those are correctly identified as the Cordoba Biege LEATHER sport seats. I had the same seats in my 2006 MCS and it was an infrequently ordered option.
In the US, the only leatherette (vinyl) seats in the R50/53 (2002-2006 MINI) range were black. There was also a very nice option called 'space cloth' that was black and grey fabric.
I could see not wanting to order a NEW car with leather seats as you would be increasing the number of hides required in the world by 1 car's worth, but on a used car, you really aren't saving an animal... I mean, you can't un-kill the cows from 2003. Oh well... It's not my car and I respect (though not understand) the ideas behind your question. Good luck!
BTW: MINI uses really crappy leather anyway. The Vinyl is a better choice unless you religious about taking care of the leather properly. If I hadn't loved that color combination with Pepper White, I would have gotten the space cloth or vinyl.
Yup - leather. A tip since you're obviously looking to avoid it - on older cars leather stretches out slightly which is what gives it that slightly saggy look. Vinyl/leatherette remains snug. ;-)
@agranger - I beg to differ - My 05 Electric Blue MCS had two tone gray leatherette seats (snazzy!) so there were options rather than black for leatherette in the US.
They are leather as the other replies state. Also if you are buying second hand check thermostat housing for signs of leakage on a model that old.
Just out of interest how do you square the circle of using hydrocarbons to fuel your purchase? I detest the exploitation of animals too and agree with the post above about this being a second hand item so you are not sanctioning the murder or otherwise of a fellow creature. Yet I'm just curious what is the difference? You are going to exploit animals that died somewhere in the equation (of using the vehicle) so is it OK simply because they died millions of years ago or because you didn't have anything to do with it?
