I noticed in my Mini that if I push the window switch down once, it automatically goes down the rest of the way. But if I push it up once, it doesn't go back up, I have to keep holding it in order to get it to go back up. I read in the owners manual that it should go up automatically on one touch. Anybody's windows go up on one touch here?
I find it really annoying having to hold the window switch until the window is closed. I'm gonna ask my dealership if it can be programmed. I hope it can and we don't get screwed out of something again!
I think the problem has to do with the ability for the power window mechanism to quickly stop or return down if an obstacle is detected, for example children's hands.
Unless the auto-up feature offers this safety feature built-in, it is unlikely they can be sold here. Maybe Canada has the same rules.
Perhaps they will be offered in future NA bound MINIs.

So because we dont have the safety feature that will stop incase someones hand or object is in the way? It makes sense, but I would still prefer to have power-up windows.
There was a very similar thread to this one last spring. died out around june with lots of folks begging someone with inside know-how to post the "codes" for programming in the auto-up feature (and it was noted that since "driver only" means left-side in some countries and right-side in merry old england, theoretically--if the codes be known--we could program auto-up for BOTH windows!) . . . did that thread die because the codes never came out . . . or was there a flurry of PMs???
btw, right after i first saw this thread, out of curiousity i was looking at the "TV for Sat Nav" one. That makes sense: we can't have auto-up windows in NA, but someone is advertising on their web site (follow the link) that, "unlike European installations, with our gizmo your mini cooper passengers will be able to watch tv, dvd's, or play games, AS YOU DRIVE." of course, the screen just happens to be in plain view of the driver. IMHO, the tv/nav set-up is a wee bit more likely to be dangerous than the auto-up windows. so can't we please have the codes???
maybe it's not codes we need. maybe it's a non-NA switch!
most of the other (North American!) cars i've driven that have the auto-up feature have a switch with a "second" position (kind of like the 2 positions on your turn signal). you push it half way for "manual" operation, or all the way to get the auto feature (my wife's gm does the same thing based on how long you hold the button). so maybe all the "brains" of this is in the switch? could there me two different parts, one for north american bound cars vs. one for the rest of the (non-litigious) world? if this works, even those in countries who already have the auto-up on driver side might be able to easily add it to their passenger windows as well!
is there a way for someone to check part numbers for NA vs. elsewhere?
In Australia we have auto down on both but heres the trick auto up on the drivers side and you have to hold the passenger side button for the window to go up
We are a bit lucky here, as it is consider that the driver is in full control of his action and the car so we can trust him not to jam his fingers in the closing window.
Their are some safety features I think is only works with the engine running and I few other that I can't think of the moment.
Has any one got their finger/arm or anything stuck in the closing window. What does it do stop, stop and go back down or just chop of the arm or finger?
