How do I choose tracks on iPod Shuffle?

I have this type of iPod Shuffle - see attachment. I've bought the male to male connector so it can go into the stereo which I had to replace recently as it died. So I got one with an Aux capability so I could play tracks off the Shuffle.

All well and good, I insert it and choose aux and it starts to play - hurrah.

But how do I skip tracks or move on to the next track?????

Normally you hit the >> button on the front of the car stereo to move onto the next track on a CD, but it seems to have no effect when I did it this morning...

Any ideas or is this type of iPod just not suitable for playing without the headphones which have the next track, previous track etc buttons?

Should say this is with a SONY CDX-GT270MP CD CAR STEREO.

I imagine that if your stereo just has the aux in function that takes the male end of a Jack plug with the same going into the iPod earphone socket then just using the track skip button on the stereo won't do anything as it is only receiving the sound and nothing else.

Do you not have a USB socket in the car or on the stereo? connecting that way may work.

Thanks for reply Mid Life Mini.

No. No USB - just the aux. I think that what I actually need is an ipod/mp3/4 player that has a 'dial' on the front of it (on front of the device, not the stereo) so I could change a track that way?

Does anyone have that style of ipod/MP3/4 that they use with the male to male connector in an aux hole, and do they know if they can change tracks using that??????

So can't you even change the tracks using the shuffle?

I think even if you get an iPod with the click wheel then you still won't be able to change tracks using the stereo and the male to male connection, you would have to change it on the actual iPod.

Ok, the shuffle I have is the one that clips on so there are no controls on it - you can only select tracks using the controls on the headphones. I think that would be VERY fiddly to try and use whilst moving!

I'm talking about having a type of device with the circular 'dial' on it - which I'm imagining will be much easier to press.....

and that WOULD change the track??? Wouldn't it????? :-*

It will change the track if you change it on the iPod, but I don't think it will be able to be controlled from the stereo.
