R53 GPS and Head Unit qs.

Hi all,

I'm looking at buying an R53, and came across 2 nice ones. One has the GPS unit, and the other doesn't. Here come the questions :

1. Is the GPS unit any good? (2005 model)
2. On GPS equipped Minis, can you swap the head unit with an aftermarket one easily?
3. On non-GPS equipped Minis, can you swap the head unit with an aftermarket one easily?

Was bluetooth available on any 2005/2006 Minis? If so, it is only for phonecalls, or does it support streaming music?

Thanks all

The 2005 gps unit will be the dvd version so can easily be updated, mine has the cd version & no copied updated maps seem to work on it so I use my tomtom. The head unit can be changed but you will lose the sound from the gps, there are devices available to get the sound back but they dont work as good as the original I found which two wires were for the sound & connected them to an auxiliary plug & plugged that into my head unit to get the sound right but you have to have the head unit on auxiliary to hear it so no music if you want to hear the sat nav. The none gps equipped minis would be a straight forward swap but not sure if thats the case if it has the harmon kardon upgrade.

The DVD unit is fussy if the updated copy maps are on a DVD-R or a DVD+R and can be fussy what program was used to burn them

on mine only the +R works
