Exclamation R53 2002 SatNav Maps / Firmware Update

Hi All,

Just got my first Mini, its a 2002 Cooper S. I'm having some difficulty with updating the SatNav Maps and or the Firmware.

The current version is: SW 3- 1/50

I've done a bit of digging around and found that I need the CD, opposed to the later DVD models.

I got my hands on a copy of the most up to date maps on CD but when inserted it doesn't seem to be any different. It doesn't update and the SatNav still works fine as if it has the original disc in it.

I don't know if there is something I'm missing but any help would be appreciated.

The Firmware upgrade is not on the map disc but on a separate disc, you can download an iso and burn it yourself, or buy online, if you search bmw sat nav updates, warning it is possible to brick you unit doing the update if it doesn't go smoothly, its not the end of the world though as BMW MK 4 units will plug straight in and they are fairly cheap S/H.

Thanks for the quick response. I've had another look around and there just seems to be a lot of the DVD versions around not the cd. And the MK4 units are around £250? I assume the unit in mine currently will be a MK1?

MK 3 in mini I believe, only the MK 4 has the 3D view "V32" so as you have the new maps (they will look the same but have the latest road changes ect) and all is working I would leave it alone, as you have a chance of bricking the unit doing a firmware upgrade for no extra features. What did you expect the firmware update to give you?

I wasn't sure what it would give me but I just wanted to make sure everything was up to date as it looked like it'd never been done... I guess the firmware doesn't matter but the new maps would be nice.

If the new map disc is in the unit and you are getting a map displayed on the screen then you have the new maps.

This is what you will gain getting 3- 1-63

The actual location is shown as an arrow in a circle.
The destination is marked with a checkered flag.
Voice guidance has more words and provides clearer directions.
Now you can avoid a trouble spot on your route to a destination.
Main roads are now shown at all times for enhanced visibility at a glance.
Some graphics changed to enhance visibility at a glance… including icons.
Map positioning in “Travel Direction” can now be selected in scales up to 100 miles
Disable point of interest icons is now selectable as on or off

Thanks, I believe it has all those features, however it says 50 not 63. Oh well, I think I'll leave it as it is! Thanks for all the help everyone!
