Advice on replacing the stock speakers

Hi, I'm new at ICE installs but would like to change my stock 5w speakers on my Cooper S. I'd like to know the following please:
1) what size of speakers do I need without having to cut the door inlay
2) What type of speakers would you recommend (I want a clean sound without masses of bass but still a good bass response when called for)
3) Tips/instructions on how to take the door/panels apart to get to the speakers

Any advice would be much appreciated. I have a Sony MDX-M690 Mini Disc player (Max. Output Power (1kHz, 4 ohm) 4x52 W).

check the faq for instructions, they are very good.
Rear speakers are 6*9's so loads of choice of good speakers, I have used both clarion & kenwood. Mine is getting a pair of kenwoods when I get the time.
Fronts require custom pods or you can make your own from MDF.
Autoleads make pods for 5" speakers
Or make your own for 16.5cm ones
