England Twin Dial Question

I just bought a 2004 Cooper S, great drive home!! It has the Rev Counter and speedo on the steering column, I notice there is a small display in the Rev counter, Like the odometer in the speedo that is completely blank, I believe it's meant to be a trip computer. Mine has the built in satnav that seems to do this, so is it right that the display is blank? The car came without a manual so I'm not sure if you need to turn it on somehow.

Yes it is meant to be blank, apart from it has warning lights in the blank part (which some light up when you turn on the ignition). The trip computer is on the same screen you use for the sat nav

My 2006 with sat nav uses the display mentioned for the trip computer display, info like instant consumption. The sat nav screen can show some, but not instant consuption.
