England 2003 Cooper steering column shroud removal

Hi,

Can anyone please tell me how to remove the lower steering column shroud? The Haynes manual is unhelpful, as my car appears to be different to that used by them, in that screws/clips are not where Haynes says they are. Any advice gratefully recd.

"If you remove the 2 screws that hold the lower plastic shroud of the column, then drop it down a few mm, remove the rubber off the ignition barrel (makes it easier to put back on) the plastic lower column cover clips came apart easily with a flat bladed screwdriver. Release the steering adjuster lever and manouvre the plastic off, will be a little tight around the barrel but should slide off with no damage."

Sorry, I may have misled with incorrect terminology. I really mean the plastic panel that is by your knees - that covers the gap between the pedals and the lower part of the dash. The trim piece also holds the small cubby hole below the headlight level switch.
