Odometer casing...

I've noticed theres about 2 3-inch scratches on my odometer plastic casing, they're not super noticeable, but they do manage to bug me.

Anyone know if its possible to have this plastic casing replaced?

Thanks for your help!

If the diagnostics are not working then they replace the entire speedometer/odometer unit for free (mine was just replaced). Not sure if they sell the face separately -- call your dealer for availability and price I guess.

Are you talking about the clear plastic lens? Get some plastic polish to remove them, and remember not to touch the plastic with anything again

I personally like Zaino plastic polish, followed by a coat of Z5.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll try the plastic polish and if it doesn't work then I guess I'm screwed, they aren't noticeable enough to make me buy another oddy, thanks again!

It's really soft plastic, you can even scratch it by wiping it with a paper towel. Seriously.

Soft... like the rest of the interior plastic... Great cars bit I hope they look good in another few years. What will they look like in 2033?

I'm scared to think of what the interior will look like 30 years down the road, ah well, I'm never going to stop loving my Mini!

I usually just wipe my oddy with a swiffer cloth. To our friends across the pond, its a cloth engineered to pick up dust and its disposable, so I use it to dust the inside of my Mini, I don't think thats what caused the scratches, must just be some un-careful hands.

I used to use Swiffer cloths on the interiors of my cars until I realized they caused an excessive amount of static electricity which attracted even more dust. I now wipe down the dash with a cotton washcloth that is slightly damp with plain water. I never touch the clear plastic lens on the dash unless it's absolutely needed (the clear lenses in both my cars are very soft and scratch easily), and then it's with a 100% cotton applicator that's lightly misted with Zaino Gloss Enhancer. The rest of the dash gets a treatment of Zaino Leather in a Bottle every once in awhile, although I personally think NuVinyl did a better job on those bits (but the Leather in a Bottle is great for the seats).

The Swiffer cloth is more than likely what caused the scratches in the first place -- it's full of synthetic fibers and can definately scratch.
