Green Cooper Parcel shelf

Does anyone how, where, etc. to get the "parcel shelf" that fits under the steering column? It is standard on Euro models, but ???unavailable here. It is very nice looking and handy, and it mounts in the same brackets as the std. cover. Thanks.

Put my digital camera in the parcel shelf and forgot it was there...

3 days later and the camera has gone in for repair

Just a polite warning

Why'd it need to go in for a repair? Hard driving and sharp turning?

Shelf

I have a UK 2003 Cooper S and it does NOT have a parcel shelf - it has the knee bolster! Where can I get the shelf (in the UK?)

They change this in the UK towards the end of last year, but your dealer can order the parts to replace it (cheap and easy).

This is the first time I have even heard of the driver's side shelf. A search in the photo galleries gave me a good look at it. Seems like a great idea for extra storage in a small car. I wonder why MINI discontinued it.

Its not 'available' in the US because US regulations require knee bolsters for crash protection. I gather whatever rules require that allow for US dealers to still sell it if you want.

The logical reason they stopped offering it in the UK is because of the same safety factor. People getting into accidents and having leg injuries because they didn't get properly stopped by the bolster. Sometimes convienence isn't worth sacrificing a safety feature....

Do a search for knee bolster or parcel shelf, there's lots and lots of discussion of it.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

If you have problems with things sliding around, I would suggest putting a "rubber" type mat on the shelf or even a strip of Velcro and secure other things to it with velcro.

Until I get my shelf, I have a round piece of velcro on the dashboard that I attach things like my Creative Zen Jukebox (60gb with 600 cds!) or my cell phone to.

I plan to do the velcro thing if I find these items sliding on the parcel shelf.

If you order from Classic MINI, they have the whole kit which already contains a rubber mat, all the screws, and everything you need. I've got the shelf. It is pretty small, but useful.

How much money are we talking about for these from the dealer? This looks like yet another nice gift for my upcoming MINI.
