Valentine One Install Question I just wired in my Valentine One last weekend and I've got a problem: strange behavior of the remote display.
I first tried wiring into the clock positive lead... bad idea. It's not enough power to run the V1. I left the negative lead that I had hooked into the clock negative, but I moved the positive feed over to one of the wires that feeds the visor mirror lights. The cord which runs down to my remote display goes along the front edge of the headliner, then down the windshield side of the A-pillar cover, then through the dash where it pops out above the steering column.
Strange symptom #! - When I turn on one of the visor lights, the remote display flickers a bit. When I turn off the visor light, the display seems to return to normal.
Strange symptom #2 - Even though I'm very careful to turn off the V1 before exiting the car (the dimmer for the visor lights makes the V1 freak out a bit when the power fades), I still get strange behavior from the remote display when I re-enter the car, start it, and turn on the V1. Sometimes the remote is blank and I need to pull the cable and reconnect it to make it "wake up". Sometimes there's a garbled display, also requiring reconnection of the cable.
Any ideas what the problem could be? I was thinking that maybe the ground needs to be rewired... but I can't find a good ground in the vicinity of the clock or mirror up in the center of the headliner.
Any tips appreciated. 2003 Dark Silver / Black Cooper S Black Leatherette, Anthracite Trim, Premium / Sport / Cold Packages, HK Stereo, Auto Wipers / Mirror Visit My MINI Site |
