Thumbs up Aux input without cutting anything

Alright, here it is... the adapted aux adapter cable. There are at least two long threads on this subject already, but at the request of perl, here's the condensed version of how to make a cable from scratch that doesn't need the CD Changer cable to be removed or cut. Thanks of course to the many people who've helped pull this info together over the past months. I hope this moves us all forward - don't wait for MINI..!

This will work on 2003's and will allow you to charge and play from an MP3 player at the same time.

You will need a pair of coupling transformers (p/n 141621), a pair of 6 way connectors (p/n 103211 - it seems they don't stock the 12 way anymore) and the pins to go in them. You'll also need the crimp tool and jaws to suit these pins - I don't have that number as we already had all that kind of kit at work. You'll also need shielded stereo wire and the end connector of your choice (either plug or socket).

Here's the circuit you need to build

And here's where it plugs in

As always this is for information only - YMMV.

Thanks, GadgetGav. I ordered the parts from Jameco. Do you think you could take a pic of how things connect for those of us who don't know how to read a schematic?

If you aren't comfortable going between schematic and circuit, you could always check out this thread

AUX input when Sat/Nav is installed

I have not seen this addressed in any of the related forums. If the Nav system is fitted, are both the "B" and "C" connectors provided? (I could go pull the radio, but maybe someone has already figured this out.)

Further,
The HU pinout (for the 2003 radios) indicates that the NAV/TV inputs are on connector "C":
Pin Function (from Schematic) Comments
3 TV L+ Used for AUX L+
4 TV R+ Used for AUX R+
5 NAV/TV+ ??
6 TEL+
10 TV L/R- Used for AUX L/R-
11 NAV/TV- ??
12 TEL-

If the Nav system actually hooks up audion via pins 3, 4 and 10, then these would not be available for AUX use on Nav equiped cars. However, I believe I read that the Nav system actually uses the CAN I-bus for communications with the radio.

Does someone have the answers?

Gadget, I can only see one of the #141621 transformers in the diagram but you say a pair.

Does a pair = one of the #141621 Coupling Transformer or does it require two of these parts?

No, there's two; T1 & T2
T1 = 141621
T2 = 141621
