Chrom-Design Speedo Ring: Gorgeous but...?

Among other marvy MINI things (including a New MINI book!), I was given a Chrom-Design Speedo Ring (which I had requested) for my MINI. I installed it with no problem. My wife and I both noticed immediately that while it is wonderful looking, it covers the hash marks on the side of the speedo, making it a little harder to read the speedo.

Has anyone else noticed this? The ring is gorgeous, though.

Anyone know whether it is possible to remove the ring without mucking-up your dash finish? I assume you'd just slip a piece of dental floss behind the ring and work it loose. I still haven't made up my so-called mind, though.

You got any pics of it installed? I'm curious to see the problem.

Thanks.

Bob - I do not know if you bought it form us, but because of the thickness of the aluminum, yes, you will have /some/ of the hash marks covered up - but it really is minor.

If you need to remove your ring from your car, here is what we recommend - at your own risk ;-)

1) Grab a hair dryer and warm up the ring and plastic a bit - be careful not to heat up the acrylic window.

2) With your finger nails, pull the ring off and it will come off eaily.

If you plan on putting the ring back on, then you will need to re-tape the back.

If you bought it from us - we can send you tape or "german chewing gun"

Sorry, I don't have pics. Peter, thanks for the info. Yes, we got it from you and you guys have the best customer service I've seen. For now, I'm going to sit tight with it in place and bet I'll get used to it. It's so nice looking... What is it the bird in the movie, "Secret of NIMH" said? ..."Sparklies!"

Now I have to get the Tacho ring...

I've had the Chromdesign speedo ring on my car for 10 months, but it only took 5 minutes to get used to. Yes, it does cover up some of the the hash marks on the left side of the speedo from the driver's point of view. But... you can still read the numbers quite easily. If you want 20 mph you know the needle needs to be half way between 10 and 30. Simple.

But let's face it, even without the chrome speedometer ring obscuring some of the hash marks, all you are working with on the MINI's mph speedometer is a single hash mark for every 10 mph. So any MINI driver is going to be doing a lot of approximating anyway -- even without a chrome ring....

And the Chromdesign chrome ring looks so very good - it's worth the minor inconvenience.

move to England and get a right hand drive car
not so much of a problem when you are obscuring 120 and 140 mph. (past 120 who cares you know you are going too fast
