Harmon Kardon Retro Fit

I have been given the opportunity to buy a HK system not including the head unit out of someone elses MINI. Can anyone tell me how easy this will be to install - i.e amp, speakers wiring etc?
Also, will the sytem work with my current head-unit, I have the factory fitted CD Boost one? Thanks for your help

i have had a look at the instructions, dealer fit time is between 4 and 5 hours.
the proper retro fit kit is still on hold in the UK.

the HK speakers are not a big upgrade over the standard ones. does that number include fitting? if not, then don't do it the end result will not be worth the cost invested.

Doesn't the...

Doesn't the H/K amp sit behind the panel on the left hand side of the boot? In which case isn't it going to be necessary to drag a bundle of cables from the h/u in the front to that side of the back? or are all the cables already there?

(or am i imagining it?)

I would also be interested in the h/k retro if it was a possibility.

Unhappy

As I'm sure most of you already know, the retro kit is currently not available.

It has been listed on the BMW parts list for some time, so my dealer says, but he can't order it yet. Official word from Germany is that although the kits are sitting in the warehouse in Germany, they haven't been released yet. My dealer could order it but it wouldn't come.

As far as I'm aware, the kit should cost approx £350 to be installed. I'm waiting for a reply from MINI UK on an availability date but it's like trying to get blood from a stone. H/K was missing from my car when it arrived - I only accepted it on the condition that the dealer said they would retro fit it, that was nearly 4 months ago.

If anyone from MINI is reading this please answer this question...why bother putting accessories in the book if you're not going to sell them? Another example is the MINI PDA...where is it?? Come on MINI, why spark the interest only to turn away the business???

even when a retrofit has been approved by BMW/MINI Germany, they are then tested by MINI uk, this is probably the hold up. we were waiting ages for the chrome mirror caps...purely because of this reason.

Do you happen to know the part number? I'm busting to get one of these kits! I need something to show my dealer.

Cheers

*cough*

I have been told part number 65130029635 but given what I've been reading I don't think the dealer will be much help.

Things are starting to be added onto the list for my trip to UK/Europe

1. Mini Facroty Tour
2. Buy Hamann rims in UK for half of Aussie price
3. Steal HK upgrade kit from German Factory...

Sounds like you are going to need some very large, very empty bags when you leave the country if you intend to bring that lot home with you
