Do you have a Palm handheld? If so there are a couple of companies that develop GPS add on devices that you can hook up onto your Palm device:

Magellan

Navman

Go to www.palm.com and I believe they have there links to aftermarket vendors that offer portable handheld GPS solutions.

If you don't find anything suitable, you can always buy a portable Magellan or Navman GPS device.

I went for a compaq Ipaq with tomtom navigator software -its very good and portable from car to car. This package which included:

The ipaq 3830 (i think )
128mb SD card
Tomtom navigator

and cost me about £490 new. Very good deal - i got it at pc world with 10% staff discount - but even at the 'before-discount' price it was good.

another vote for

tomtom II

got it from www.totalpda.co.uk

Already had an ipaq, so just bought the kit

If you're just using it for nav & media, look at one of their bundles

like

http://www.totalpda.co.uk/productvie...tion=1&id=4180

prices are ex vat though...

Looked at totalpda web site but when you add vat and p+p it works out the same as comet/dixons and you get it there and then (did not wont to use my card on the web).
Love tomtom 2

true about the prices, couldn't find it on the high street when I was looking though.

If you use tomtom II, get the latest update (2.21 I think, it's a big improvement)

Funny, but I keep finding the following in my Favourite locations

JCW Garages
Hartge @ Birds
AMD

Just need the cash to spend there now

Hehe - I've just put AmD in to my Tom Tom 2 favourites so I can get to the Dyno Day there tomorrow

I've tried a few different nav software systems now, and have found Tom Tom Navigator 2 is the most comprehensive and easy to use too.

I have an IPAQ 3850 + NAVMAN GPS Jacket (CoPilot). After looking into getting some new software (after having a copy of tomtom v1) I have decided to go for the following:
TomTom II Navigator Kit
http://www.totalpda.co.uk/productvie...tion=1&id=4168

I have done this as I think the external GPS thingy will be better if the IPAQ is not mounted near the windscreen. I also had to order a 128 SD card to replace the CF card which is in the GPS jacket. Including VAT, delivery and the cable this came to £315.90 which I dont think is too bad.

Should all arrive on Monday ... until then ...

I'm lucky - the iPAQ is from work and the Navman jacket I use was a freebie. I bought TTN2 from my own pocket after borrowing it for a couple days, and I'm investing in the Western Europe maps soon (8 CDs!!)
