Question Taking the door pull cross bar off

I am attempting to take off the cross bar door pull. I have gotten the panel off of the door, thanks to the FAQ info, without a problem. However I am not able to see how to take the door pull off.

It appears that the oval surround is seperate from the cross bar door pull. But all the parts are rivited on by melting the plastic tips once they are thru the back of the panel.

I want to take this part off so that I can have the easily scratched part chromed.

new info update

I spoke to my local dealer and he said they only sell the entire door panel and not any of the individual pieces that make up the panel. The panel cost $433.40. Yikes.

On one of the other threads there was a picture where someone chromed the door bar, so there must be a way to get of off the car.

it's true the two pieces are plastic riveted together.

you could mask off the door and paint just that one piece.

Thanks for the replies so far. It is so frustrating to be so close, but yet so far from getting it done.

My chromer contact can not do a portion of the door. They actually chrome it by dipping it into the chrome once the plastic has been electrified and coated with copper/nickel.

The picture, that was posted in "how much chrome is too much" showed some had chromed just the handle.

You are right Obehave, just missing a few pieces of info.

Anyone, anyone...
