| iPod input and control |<< and >>| from to be released Blitzsafe thing shamelessly stolen from http://www.ipodlounge.com/ ------ Blitzsafe working with Apple on iPod adapter for car Update: An anonymous reader has sent us the contents of a reply email from Blitzsafe: "We did start a basic interface for the iPod, I do not think before September or October, We are working with Apple now. We do have the Aux interface available at this time, you will use the iPod to control function, or you may wait. Stay tuned." Wanted to let the iPodophiles know that Blitzsafe, the makers of the auxillary input adapters, is working directly with Apple (according to Blitzsafe, blitzsafe@blitzsafe.com) to create an adapter (for cd changer ready headunits) that will not only provide the audio input but also allow the headunit's controls to control the iPod. I've not gotten confirmation on providing a power source for the iPod via this adapter, but headunits normally send 12v to the changer. The adapter probably won't be ready before September/October time frame for general release. Great news, especially since my iPod continually tries to kill me when I'm driving (distracting me while I should be braking, turning or just paying attention in general). Editor's note: Blitzsafe has confirmed this to be true in an email to iPodlounge with a simple 'yes.' No other information was provided. |

| Cool tip: If you're using a Mac with iTunes, make a Smart Playlist that is something like: "songs I have not listed to for at least 1 month and have a rating >= ***" ...all your favourite tracks that you haven't heard for while. This one keeps me entertaind whilst driving. |

| hmmm... interesting. But it doesn't look like this will be made specifically for Mini, but rather as a generic interface that would replace the CD changer. Which in the case of a mini would mean a) running some cables back to the changer in the "boot" and b) the inability to use both a changer and an iPod, and c) possibly cutting some CD changer cables. I wouldn't really intend to use both anyway, but I like having everything up front. And there is indeed a separate plug for a CD changer and aux input on the head unit. So the ideal solution would be an interface that all comes directly out of the HU. |

| No, that already exists, has for over a year. (And if you're worried, it has an aux input and a plug to use an alpine changer). Its actually no where near as bad as it sounds, its the only option for '02's actually, and running a cable from the boot's fine, in many ways simplier then taking the radio out to access the back. Blitzsafe realizes there's lots of MINI and BMW owners (they use pretty much the same interface) who want to use their ipods, so they're embarking on this 'upgrade' to their current model, by adding control too. (Maybe power as well?) Lets all hope this works out correctly. Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball. |
