CD Head unit (Sony) display sometimes not working?

I have a CD Head unit (Sony CDXMP40) and sometimes the display keeps going blank. Has it happened to anyone else? What is the cause of the problem? I've cleaned the connectors and everything!

Does this happen a lot with Sony Head Units? No chance of it being a loose connection? If not, I'll definitely have to send the blasted thing back!

Saved me £80 though. I just rang them and they told me to check for loose connections just in case. If there is still a problem they told me to send it back.

I had this problem with my mp70 after my dealer gave my car back (they had to fix what I thought would be unrelated...sunroof rattle and some other stuff).

I am still not sure whether it was them or a bad job connecting the power wires by me The head unit has been great since.

Its funny you should mention that, I am returning the face plate of an Alpine 9815RB thats doing exactly the same thing!!!! Maybe its a MINI thing ha ha. No seriosly, its the connectors coz when it goes blank, if you press where the connectors are, it flashes on and off. The shop were spot and and really helpful. They told me to return the faceplate first so i don't have to pull the whole thing out. They will send a new one out in within 24 hours. If I still have probs then they said they would replace the main unit as well. I have had the unit all of five days!!!! What I DO RECOMMEND, is take pics and a small vid of it, burn it to disc if you can and send that as well. I was concerned that they might not be able to replicate the problem under workshop conditions and send it back saying there was nothing wrong with it. But the bloke said if I can get pics or video of it doing it, its going to save them testing it. (I bought it Online)
