Speaker upgrade for H/K - Help?

6 weeks and already my front speakers are damaged. Mid-range makes them crackle even at moderate volumes. The thing is, I've had the bass turned all the way down on my system since day one because it simply pushes too much bass to the front speakers.

I don't know if the H/K system has a crossover that keeps frequencies < 60 Hz from the front woofers, but they seem to be pushing the full range.

So, I'd like to upgrade my speakers to something that will sound GREAT without throwing away the investment I made with the H/K system (i.e. not doing away with the head unit or H/K amp).

What speakers (and sizes) are best to run with the H/K system? I'm going to get an inline passive bass blocker (60Hz-80Hz cutoff) for the front woofers so they won't get destroyed when I turn the volume up (and so I don't have to turn the bass all the way down, which kills the bass that the back 6x9s are pushing).

I would like to replace all the speakers for the best quailty sound I can afford. I wonder though are these speakers covered by warantee?

Thanks!

I think you shoud get warranty coverage. The HK system seems carefully designed to not stress the speakers no matter what you do so there must be a problem.

The problem is more than likely that the amp for the HK system is severly underpowered and ruining your speakers at higher volumes. I had the H/K system from the dealer, as I did not order a car, and got rid of it within a week. I don't know what your budget is for speakers, but the Boston Z series or the Focal 165k's or Focal Utopias absolutely sound great. You will, however, need a bigger amp for any of those, preferably at least 100 watts per channel x 4. Amp quality is also a factor. You can buy a cheap amp and still have issues. But if forced to decide between a cheaper amp or cheaper speakers, go with the cheaper amp and upgrade it later.
